I realized Kabam could be huge when we launched our game and saw players spending significantly. It felt unbelievable and marked a moment of success for us.
Well, that is so funny because huge is a very relative term. I will I would tell you that, Victor. Huge is a big is a relative term because it always felt like I think, for many entrepreneurs, and probably you felt this as well, is, like, you have this amazing success, but you also feel like it could be taken away from you any day because you have so many challenges at the same time. So in terms of, like, huge, like, it it's very hard because even when we grew to a thousand people, I was like, we had to do layoffs at at at those times. We had to shut down offices.
We had to there were just so many things that were you know, our our flagship game wasn't doing well. So there there is a this weird, like, sense of, like, I don't know if you ever believe it's gonna be huge type thing until the money's in the bank and you're done. Then you're like, oh, I guess that was big. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. And I I wonder if, like, maybe even for Zuckerberg, he still thinks that when he has to go through these layoffs of, like, hey. Because you see these these companies go into nonexistence. Right? You don't talk about AskJeeves anymore.
You don't talk about, you know, Yahoo as much anyway. And those guys were, like, huge. And when there's is it the Intel guy? The paranoid are the winners. Right?
Andy Grove. That's right. Like, there is something to that that, like and even it's funny because one of our values was success is never final. And I joke around because we were all kids of of Chinese immigrant parents. So I'm like, oh, even if you get a a, it's not good enough.
But I think it's also the whole kind of, realizing that you can't rest on your laurels. You have to keep on pushing, and things change so quickly, that you could be big one moment and then you're just in dust. So it's interesting. But there are certain moments where we're like, oh my gosh. Maybe this is a thing.
Like, for example, when we launched our game, the craziest thing was I remember we were Thanksgiving. We were looking. We're like, holy cow. This guy's spending, like, a hundred dollars in our game. What is he doing?
And a hundred dollars was, like, a big deal at the time. They ended up spending more later and later, and you're like, what? So there are definitely these moments of just, like, unbelievability or the first time, so one of the things we used to do is, set a company goal. And then if we reach that goal in a certain amount of time, everybody went on a company trip, together with, like, a guest. And, like, that was, like, amazing.
Our first trip was to Las Vegas. Right? I think we ended up having a trip to Tahoe. And it was just, like, a really great time, and, like, that's another moment of, oh my god. This is success.
There's an old adage about startups. The highs are high and the lows are low. So I'm like, just know that this too shall pass, like, at any moment. So when it's high, just really soak it in. Enjoy the highs.
When it's low, just know that this too will pass. Alright.
