MNOs should be careful not to run into the congestion and declining ARPU issues now faced in 3G environments. MNOs should innovate & embrace Wi-Fi charging for 3rd party content offerings, time based and on-demand speed based offerings rather than Value-based pricing as the market grows to benefit the end consumer.

Telco versus OTT: What the consumers would want
MNO's should roll out data as a service (DaaS). This will enable them to move from backend data services to front-end in the customer play. MNO's with a treasure of data points about each customer including demographic information, average spend and more importantly category spend will be able to facilitate identification of device and pushing relevant OTT apps to the customer. MNO's can also add "In-Service Consent"&"QoS" as part of DaaS. OTT's preferring better QoS work with the MNO's strategically else move to a narrow pipe with no assurance of QoS.Blackberry is an excellent example of DaaS. Consumers were willing to pay exclusively for BBM plan with an assured QoS. Monetization of services for OTT which is a pain point for them will become as easy as one click payment via Direct Carrier Billing.
