Role description
PrimerAbout Primer
Primer is a growing network of K–8 schools restoring the timeless foundations of American education. Inspired by the original teaching primers that shaped a nation of readers, thinkers, and builders, our schools begin with what has always worked, and build for what lies ahead. Close-knit learning environments. Skilled educators. A culture that takes kids seriously as learners and leaders.
Primers shaped the first 200 years of American children. Primer will ready them for the next.
We hear from parents, educators, legislators, and community leaders every day about the lives we’re changing — from families who felt stuck in the traditional system and now see their child thriving at Primer, to parents who “feel like they have their child back” after a few months at Primer.
Your job is to bring Primer’s story to life for families across every state, campus, and event. You’ll own the standards that keep our creative consistent and build the production engine that makes high-quality, locally relevant assets available fast. You’ll work within Primer’s established brand, making one brand feel personal in dozens of communities, soon hundreds.
This is a hands-on role. You’ll design, review, and ship work yourself while building the templates, workflows, and AI-powered tools that help us scale. Teams will count on you as a creative partner with a sharp eye for detail, clear judgment on what’s ready to ship, and the resourcefulness to deliver as demand grows.
Key Responsibilities
Own and uphold Primer’s established brand guidelines, ensuring every asset meets our standards while reflecting state, campus, and event-specific needs.
Build and run a creative production program that delivers high volumes of customized, high-quality assets with fast, predictable turnaround times.
Develop reusable templates, event kits, and asset libraries that make localized production efficient and maintain brand consistency.
Partner with Growth, Admissions, and campus teams to translate business needs into clear creative briefs, priorities, and deliverables.
Own the workflow from intake through delivery, establishing clear SLAs, approval processes, and quality checks.
Serve as the final creative reviewer, ensuring assets are accurate, polished, on-brand, and ready to publish or print.
Personally design and produce assets while directing contractors or external creative partners as needed.
Track turnaround times, revision volume, and output quality to improve production as Primer expands.
What You Bring:
A strong design portfolio demonstrating brand consistency across digital, print, and localized marketing materials.
Exceptional attention to detail and the creative judgment to recognize what is ready to ship and what needs refinement.
Experience building creative workflows that support high-volume production across multiple locations, audiences, or event types.
A scrappy, hands-on approach with the ability to lead a program and execute the work yourself.
Strong prioritization and stakeholder management skills, balancing speed, quality, and competing deadlines.
Fluency in design tools and experience using templates, automation, and AI-assisted workflows to scale production without compromising quality.
Uses AI tools and automation to accelerate creative production, scale state and campus customization, and shorten turnaround times while maintaining brand consistency and quality.
Experience:
6+ years of experience in graphic design, brand design, or creative production, creating high-quality digital and print assets.
3+ years of experience adapting an established brand across multiple locations, audiences, and event types, with a portfolio demonstrating strong design judgment and locally relevant creative.
2+ years of experience building creative production systems, including templates, asset libraries, intake processes, and clear turnaround expectations.
Hands-on proficiency with design tools and a track record of personally taking assets from brief to final delivery.
Experience using AI and automation to accelerate production and customization while maintaining quality and brand consistency.
Demonstrated attention to detail, including reviewing creative for accuracy, consistency, and readiness to publish or print.
Experience partnering with growth and local operations teams to prioritize requests and deliver against competing deadlines.
Primer is a mission-first company. We believe our mission is the highest-leverage way we can create positive change. In service of that, we keep work centered on mission execution and avoid social or political activism at work that’s unrelated to the mission. If that energizes you, we’d love to see you apply.
