Design Technologist

Insurance plays an important role in people’s lives, providing protection and peace of mind through life’s adventures and unexpected turns. In the moments that matter, people want to know their insurer is there for them. About the Role

You'll design the parts of Hi Marley that every other product depends on: how carriers connect with their partners and vendors, and how they set up, manage, and monitor the platform itself. Across two teams, Network and Core Services, you'll turn complex configuration and operational data into screens carrier admins can act on with confidence. This is a designer-first role with a path into front-end: you'll work in our coded prototypes alongside designers who design and code every day, while Engineering owns production. If untangling a permissions model or a dense data table sounds like a good day, you'll love this role.

We’re in our Boston office Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays to connect, collaborate, and learn together. Recurring meetings typically run between 9:30am and 4:30pm for commuter flexibility.

What You'll Do

• Take features from problem framing to final designs with PMs and engineers, covering flows, edge cases, and states
• Make complex configuration feel simple, from settings and permissions to user management, rules, and routing
• Design clear tables, logs, dashboards, and status views that show network activity and integration health at a glance
• Test ideas in our coded prototypes, run usability tests with carrier admins, and turn repeating patterns into design system components

Your first year

• First 30 days: You know our users, workflows, and technical constraints, and you're set up in our design system and prototypes.
• By month 3: You've designed a scoped configuration or admin feature with complete flows, key edge cases, and annotated states.
• By month 6: You've added 1–2 documented patterns to the design system and made your first changes in our code prototypes.
• By month 9: You're helping ship features that make setup and admin tasks easier, using code prototypes to test and share ideas.

About You

• 3+ years in product, UX, or interaction design, with a portfolio showing strong craft, clear process, and how you handled edge cases
• Proficiency in Figma, comfort in a design system, and working knowledge of accessibility basics like keyboard navigation, focus, and contrast
• Real interest in complex workflows like settings and data-heavy screens, and a habit of sharing work early and seeking feedback
• Able to work from our Boston office 3 days a week

Nice to have

• Some front-end experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or React), or a clear interest in learning it
• Experience prototyping in code, including with AI-assisted coding tools
• Experience designing admin consoles or dashboards for B2B SaaS or operations-heavy products

Compensation, Benefits & Perks: 
At Hi Marley, we are committed to fair and transparent pay practices. The annual base salary for this role is expected to fall within the range of $82,600–$129,800 depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location. Offers are determined based on these factors as well as internal peer equity. It’s most common for new hires to start near the midpoint of the range, allowing room for growth as employees develop in their role.
