Senior Site Reliability Engineer

About Spectro Cloud

Spectro Cloud, a recognized leader in enterprise Kubernetes management with its flagship Palette platform, is seeking an execution-focused, hands-on Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to help advance mission-critical platform resilience and operational excellence. This role contributes directly to the continuous stability, performance, security, and reliability of our US- and EU-based global platform.

As an SRE, you will operate and improve Palette production systems end to end, contributing to Service Level Objectives (SLOs), incident response, production readiness, observability, automation, disaster recovery, and performance optimization across commercial and federal deployments.

You will work closely with Platform Engineering, DevOps, and product engineering teams to build reliable, scalable, and highly automated systems, with a strong emphasis on reducing operational toil, improving recovery speed, and preventing repeat incidents.

The Role

Your core mandate is to engineer, operate, and continuously improve a declarative, self-healing, cloud-native, Kubernetes-native, highly observable, enterprise-grade platform. You will contribute hands-on to the systems and processes that ensure production health, including:

• Go-based microservices, focusing on throughput, resilience, reliability, and operational simplicity.
• Production-readiness improvements for CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, enabling safe and reliable deployments.
• Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) automation using Terraform and Ansible to deliver consistent, secure, and repeatable environments, with strong Disaster Recovery (DR) and business continuity practices.
• Unified observability across metrics, logs, traces, and intelligent alerting to provide actionable visibility into platform health.
• MongoDB and distributed-systems operations to support 24/7 availability, performance, durability, and efficiency.

Success in this role requires a proactive builder-and-operator mindset. You should be comfortable troubleshooting complex distributed systems, automating repetitive work, participating in incident response, and improving reliability through disciplined engineering. You will also use AI responsibly as an accelerator for repeatable SRE tasks while maintaining strong human validation, security, and engineering accountability.

In this role, you will help make Palette more reliable, observable, resilient, and easier to operate. You will improve the mechanisms by which Spectro Cloud detects failures, responds to incidents, measures reliability, deploys safely, and prevents recurrence—while using automation and responsible AI adoption to increase operational leverage.

What You'll Do

Production Reliability Engineering (SRE & Resilience)

• Implement and improve enterprise-grade practices for stability, performance, scalability, observability, and Disaster Recovery (DR).

• Define, instrument, monitor, and continuously improve Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and error budgets in partnership with service owners.

• Participate in the incident-response lifecycle, including on-call, mitigation, blameless Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and preventative long-term remediation.

• Identify recurring reliability risks and drive engineering changes that improve production resilience.

Observability & Performance Management (Proactive Operations)

• Build, operate, and improve the unified observability stack using technologies such as Prometheus/Grafana, ELK/Loki, and distributed tracing.
• Create dashboards, alerts, and runbooks that provide real-time visibility into system health and user experience.
• Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and load testing to ensure the platform can meet current and future demand while adhering to SLOs.
• Reduce alert noise and improve signal quality so incidents can be detected and resolved quickly.

Production Safety & Deployment Engineering (Minimizing Toil)

• Implement and continuously improve safe deployment strategies such as canary releases, rolling updates, blue/green deployments, and feature flags in partnership with DevOps and engineering teams.
• Build robust, fast, automated rollback and recovery mechanisms to minimize Mean Time To Recovery (MTTR).
• Automate repetitive operational work and eliminate toil through tooling, standardization, and self-service capabilities.
• Promote a 'you build it, you run it' mindset through strong production-readiness practices and clear service ownership.

AI-Accelerated Reliability (Responsible Innovation)

• Apply generative AI tools responsibly to accelerate repeatable SRE tasks such as RCA summarization, runbook generation, operational analysis, and incident pattern identification.
• Use effective prompt-engineering practices to improve the quality and consistency of AI-assisted workflows.
• Validate all AI-generated operational artifacts before use. Increased velocity must never compromise engineering correctness, security, or compliance.

Platform Architecture & Optimization (Scalability & Performance)

• Contribute to the continuous evolution of the scalable, resilient Kubernetes control plane with a focus on reducing failure domains and operational complexity.
• Design and improve resilient Go microservices and REST APIs with reliability, security, and performance principles built in.
• Troubleshoot and optimize MongoDB performance, indexing, and distributed-systems behavior to support high availability and data integrity.
• Partner with engineering teams on production-readiness reviews and reliability improvements before and after service launches.

About the Team

The Spectro Cloud Engineering organization operates under a discipline philosophy guided by Clarity, Precision, Documentation-Driven Engineering (DDE), validation-first execution, and a culture of Absolute Ownership.

• Create and maintain clear, Markdown-based design specifications, operational documentation, and runbooks so architectural and operational intent is documented before implementation.

• Own services and reliability outcomes end to end, including operational readiness, on-call participation, and follow-through on remediation work.

• Drive continuous operational excellence and measurable reduction of toil.

• Use reliability KPIs such as MTBF, MTTR, deployment success rates, SLO attainment, and error-budget consumption to guide improvements.

• Collaborate effectively across SRE, Platform Engineering, DevOps, Security, and product engineering teams.

Required qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or operating high-scale distributed systems.
• Strong hands-on experience operating, scaling, and troubleshooting Kubernetes in complex production environments.
• Programming proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or a comparable language, with a strong focus on automation and operational tooling.
• Hands-on experience with observability systems spanning metrics, logs, traces, alerting, dashboards, and incident response/on-call operations.
• Strong Infrastructure-as-Code experience with Terraform and/or Ansible.
• Operational experience with at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience troubleshooting distributed systems, networked services, and production performance issues using data-driven methods.
• Working knowledge of MongoDB operations, query/index performance, and high-availability concepts in production environments.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with Go-based microservices and REST APIs.
• Experience designing or operating production systems for enterprise SaaS, regulated, or federal environments.
• Experience implementing disaster-recovery, capacity-planning, or load-testing programs.
• Experience using AI-assisted engineering or operations workflows with strong validation and governance controls.
